Our 2010-2011 season will lead you through a myriad of emotions with four operas of different musical styles, and will create memories you won't want to miss!
Giuseppe Verdi's Nabucco, which has not been seen at the Palm Beach Opera for over 25 years, will set the tone in December 2010. Famous for its Chorus of the Hebrew Slaves ('Va pensiero'), it tells the story of the power-hungry Babylonian King Nebuchadnezzar, who provokes the wrath of the God of the Hebrews with his blasphemous acts. Throw in an angry 'ex-daughter' and a fierce high priest, and Verdi creates a family drama with severe consequences!
Making its Palm Beach Opera mainstage debut, Christoph Willibald Gluck's Orfeo ed Euridice portrays Orpheus' journey into the underworld to bring his beloved Eurydice back to life - one of literature's most poignant renditions of love's triumph over death, combining haunting melodies and orchestral dances.
Building on the success of Le Nozze di Figaro and Don Giovanni, we will conclude the Mozart-Da Ponte trilogy with Cosi fan tutte, a light-hearted comedy about the (un-) steadfastness of lovers. Two young men are being challenged by their tutor to switch identity and try to seduce the other's girl! The ingenious Mozart mixes good fun with magnificent solo and ensemble singing.
The season-ending Puccini smash-hit Tosca reunites us with the famed opera diva who fights against the corruption of the Roman chief of police, and is willing to sacrifice her life to save her beloved. The most beautiful soaring arias, including 'Vissi d'arte' and 'E lucevan le stelle' will transport you once again into Puccini's world of emotional turmoil.
